Welshpool firm wins Powys Business Award
A Welshpool manufacturer has been named Powys Business of the Year for 2026. Morland, a leading UK producer of laminated panels, doors and profiles for construction, leisure and marine, received the award for its innovation and investment in advanced technology.
The investment has transformed the company’s manufacturing capability. It improved efficiency, flexibility, and product quality while also future-proofing the business. The company now has 106 employees.
The new ECO2 line allows Morland to manufacture wrapped-edge plasterboard panels and internally laminated doors, products it could not make before. The facility can now process plywood, MDF, and particle board in thicknesses from 2mm to over 44mm, significantly boosting production options.
Rachel Jones, director of corporate administration at Morland, said the award was a “real surprise” but that the company was “thrilled” to win. She emphasized the company’s commitment to investing in its processes and supporting its community through apprenticeships. As a company, they are very much looking forward to the future and are really looking forward to the company continuing to grow and let’s see what 2027 brings!
Judge Ed Coomber described Morland as “a worthy standard bearer for business in Powys.” He praised the company for its excellence across all 12 judging criteria, noting its strong achievements and clear plans for future growth. Morland has not only excelled in its chosen award category but demonstrated excellence across all 12 areas of the judging criteria. That breadth of achievement made a powerful impression on the panel.
The judges were also impressed by the contributions of employees, who gained advanced automated manufacturing technology skills during the two-year project.
