Wales Unveils Renewable Energy Plans at Newport Summit

Wales’s renewable energy potential will take center stage at Future Energy Wales 2026, a conference gathering industry leaders, policymakers, and investors in Newport next month. Organized by RenewableUK Cymru, the event focuses on enhancing electricity grid connections, strategic energy planning, and investing in ports and industry to drive renewable energy growth.
Set for November 3–4 at ICC Wales, the conference arrives at a key moment for Wales’s energy sector. Amid shifting political priorities and increased focus on renewable energy’s role in economic growth and security, the event aims to tackle key challenges and opportunities.
While Wales boasts substantial renewable energy resources, project success hinges on more than securing sites and investment. Grid connections, supporting infrastructure, and coordinated planning play essential roles in shaping project timelines.
Expected to draw around 500 delegates, 90 speakers, and 35 exhibitors from the energy sector, discussions will center on the Strategic Spatial Energy Plan. This plan examines how a unified approach to energy infrastructure can guide decisions for developers, network operators, investors, and policymakers.
Notable speakers include Julian Leslie, Director of Strategic Spatial Energy Planning at the National Energy System Operator (NESO), offering insights into national infrastructure planning.
Investment in Welsh ports and industrial infrastructure will be another key focus. The conference will explore how renewable energy projects can boost manufacturing, engineering, construction, and related services, enabling Welsh businesses to capitalize on future investment.
Infrastructure development’s potential to strengthen the domestic supply chain and create opportunities across Wales’s economy will also be discussed. The program features contributions from Adam Price MS, Welsh Cabinet Minister for Enterprise, Connectivity and Energy, Michael Shanks MP, Minister of State at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, and Gus Jaspert, Managing Director of The Crown Estate.
For Welsh businesses, the conference provides insight into future renewable energy investment opportunities, while contributing to discussions on infrastructure and policy decisions critical for project success. Future Energy Wales 2026 will be held at ICC Wales, Newport, on November 3–4. Additional details and registration are available on the Future Energy Wales website.
